Benoit’s Story: From Engineer to specialty coffee entrepreneur
Benoit, an engineer by trade, moved to Colombia 2 years ago. He quickly became an essential part of the Jetlaggers’ team, helping us organize our community trips there and offering a unique local perspective that made the experiences unforgettable. But as he spent more time in Colombia, something sparked within him—a desire to do something more, something that would connect the magic of Colombia’s culture to the rest of the world in a meaningful way.
His path took a life-changing turn when he had the opportunity to meet the Kogi an indigenous community living deep in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Colombia. The Kogi are known for their profound respect for nature and their philosophy of living in harmony with the earth. Inspired by their sustainable lifestyle and their connection to the land, Benoit decided to create Petit Kogi—a project that would not only share the finest Colombian coffee but also honor the values of sustainability, fairness, and respect for the environment.
From Bean to Cup: All Made in Colombia
Petit Kogi is rooted in the idea that great coffee can only come from great relationships—with the land, with the people, and with the world. From bean production to roasting, everything is done in Colombia, ensuring the highest quality and maintaining a connection to the local farmers and the land itself. Benoit worked closely with indegenous many of whom live in the middle of the jungle, to cultivate the finest beans that reflect the unique flavor profiles of Colombia’s coffee-growing regions.
But Petit Kogi is about more than just the beans—it’s about a whole process designed to minimize our environmental footprint. To align with the sustainable values of the Kogi people, Benoit’s vision includes transitioning to 100% maritime transport by sail by 2026, a groundbreaking initiative to reduce the carbon footprint of coffee importation. This ambitious project is part of the broader mission to make Petit Kogi a leader in ethical, eco-conscious coffee production.
